BRANDVLEI
Brandvlei, situated 170km northeast of Calvinia on the R27 towards Cape Town, was developed near the Sak River in the heart of Bushmanland . It is named after ‘Ou Brand, a 19th century trekboer, that settled in the area. The town was cut in two by a flash-flood in 1961, recovered, and a municipality was formed in 1962. It is now part of the Namakwa Region.
